Terms of service
Last updated October 21, 2026
In short: Langmerse is made by GHR Software Inc. Using the app or this website means you agree to these terms. Paddle sells the subscription as our merchant of record. Use Langmerse for your own learning, keep your account to yourself, and treat its translations and explanations as study aids, not certainties.
Who you're dealing with
These terms are an agreement between you and GHR Software Inc., 200 - 1460 CHEVRIER BLVD., WINNIPEG, MB, CANADA, R3T 1Y6 (“we”, “us”), the company that makes the Langmerse desktop app for Windows and runs this website and its service (together, “Langmerse”). By creating an account, installing the app or continuing to use Langmerse, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Langmerse.
You must be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree to them for you.
Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- An account is for one person. You can sign in on up to five computers, and one of them listens at a time. Don't share your account or resell access to it.
- Tell us at support@langmerse.app if you think someone else is using your account.
Plans, payment and renewal
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. When you subscribe, you buy from Paddle under Paddle's buyer terms, which cover payment, billing, renewal and cancellation alongside these terms.
- Free trial. A new account can start one free trial: 30 minutes of live transcription over 14 days. Starting it takes a payment card, entered in Paddle's checkout after you agree to these trial terms. The card is checked, not charged (your bank may briefly show a small authorization, which is released), and nothing is charged when the trial ends either. The trial is over once its minutes are used up or 14 days have passed: its subscription at Paddle then pauses, and we ask you — in the app, on your account page and by email — whether you'd like Monthly or Yearly. If you choose a plan, its price (shown before you confirm) is charged to the card you started the trial with, and it renews until you cancel; if you don't, nothing is charged, and live transcription waits until you do. You can also choose a plan before the trial is over, which ends it. Paddle emails you about the trial too, including that its subscription will pause when the trial ends.
- One free trial per person. We may refuse a free trial to an account, an email address or a card that has had one. We recognise a card by a one-way fingerprint of its type, last four digits and expiry, so two cards can occasionally look alike: write to support@langmerse.app if we got it wrong. A refused trial's subscription is cancelled before anything is charged, and you can still subscribe.
- Plans. Monthly: US$15 a month (C$20 in Canada). Yearly: US$165 a year (C$220 in Canada), twelve months for the price of eleven. Sales tax is added at checkout where it applies, and Paddle may show the price in your currency.
- Allowance. Both plans include 30 hours of video a month, renewing on your billing date each month (a yearly plan too). Hours count as you listen; very fast or dense speech counts faster, because it costs more to process. Explanations have monthly limits that normal use doesn't reach.
- Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, without us asking you again, until you cancel. Cancel any time from your account page (Manage billing); you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Price changes. We'll tell you before a new price applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.
- Refunds follow our refund policy.
Acceptable use
Use Langmerse for your own learning. Don't:
- use it for anything unlawful or fraudulent, or to send spam;
- use it to infringe copyright or anyone else's rights — for example by publishing or selling transcripts or translations of content you don't have the rights to;
- interfere with or get around Langmerse's security, limits or allowances — including taking transcription keys out of the app or calling our service from other software — or attack, overload or probe our systems;
- copy, resell or reverse engineer the app or the service, except where the law allows it or the licence of an open-source component the app includes does (they are listed in its licenses folder);
- use it to create or spread illegal content, sexual content involving anyone without their consent, deepfakes, hate or harassment, malware, or content that deceives people or exposes their private information, or try to make its AI features produce such content.
AI features and accuracy
Langmerse's transcription, translations, word meanings and grammar explanations are produced automatically, partly by AI models. They can be wrong or incomplete. Use them as study aids, not as authoritative or professional advice, and check anything that matters. You're responsible for the audio you choose to play and transcribe and for how you use what Langmerse produces from it, including having any rights you need to that audio.
If a translation, grammar note or word meaning is inappropriate, offensive or wrong, report it from the app: use Report under a line's grammar, Report this meaning when editing a saved word, or Settings → About → Report AI content. We review every report and act on it.
We may limit, suspend or block use that breaks these terms or looks automated or abusive — for example streams that cost far more than real listening can.
Your content and ours
Your saved words, decks and study progress are yours. You give us the permission we need to store, sync and process them to run Langmerse for you. You can export your decks to Anki at any time. Without an active trial or subscription, the app — including the words you've saved — isn't available.
Langmerse itself — the app, this website, the service, their code, design, documentation and brand — belongs to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app while your account is in good standing. Dictionary data comes from JMdict, © EDRDG, used under CC BY-SA 4.0.
If you believe something on Langmerse infringes your rights, write to support@langmerse.app with the details. We'll look into it and take it down where appropriate.
Availability
We work to keep Langmerse running well, but we can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. It depends on the internet and on the providers we use for transcription, explanations, hosting and payments. We may change, add or remove features; if we discontinue a paid subscription, you keep what you've paid for until it expires.
Suspension and closing accounts
You can stop using Langmerse and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, non-payment, fraud or a security risk. A chargeback — a payment disputed with your bank — closes the account it paid for.
Disclaimers and liability
To the extent the law allows, Langmerse is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind; we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses; and our total liability for any claim about Langmerse is limited to what you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with its date and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email or in the app before they apply. Using Langmerse after that means you accept them.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. That doesn't take away any protection the consumer law of where you live gives you.
