Japanese immersion, made readable
Understand the Japanese
you're already watching.
Live subtitles with furigana, instant word meanings, and natural translations — over anything playing on your screen. Anime, dramas, games, YouTube, streams. No subtitle files. No pausing.

Immersion works. The tooling doesn't.
You've been told to just watch more.
So you do — and every other line, you're reaching for a dictionary, squinting at a kanji you half-know, or rewinding subtitles that vanished too fast. The flow you came for is gone.
Pausing kills the flow
Stop, look up, lose the scene, rewind. Ten seconds of story stretched into a minute of admin.
Tools are locked to one site
Browser extensions only help on Netflix or YouTube. Your game, your player, your stream? On your own.
Raw subtitles don't teach
No furigana, no readings, no grammar. You see the words — but not what they mean or how they fit.
How it works
Three steps. Then just watch.
No subtitle files to find, no video to upload. Langmerse listens to your desktop audio and reads along with you.
Play anything in your language
An anime episode, a K-drama, a livestream, a visual novel, a YouTube video — whatever's already on your screen.
Langmerse transcribes it live
Speech becomes text as it's spoken, appearing in a subtitle bar you can park anywhere over your video.
Read, hover, understand
The reading over every word, a meaning on hover, and a natural translation underneath — colour-matched to the words.
Everything on one line
Built to keep you watching.
Every feature exists to answer one question faster — "what did they just say?" — so you can get back to the story.
Live transcription
Real-time Japanese speech-to-text — over any app, no subtitle file required.
Readings on every word
Furigana over every kanji — placed exactly where it belongs, so an unfamiliar word never stops you cold.
Instant word meanings
Hover any word for its dictionary definition, part of speech, and dictionary form. No second window.
Colour-matched translation
Each English phrase glows in the same colour as the word it translates. See the mapping at a glance.
Grammar, explained in context
Notes written for the exact line you're watching — the nuance a dictionary won't tell you.
Accurate word detection
Every language gets a real tokenizer and dictionary: 行きたい reads as "want to go", 我想喝 splits into 我·想·喝, 저는 into word + particle. Conjugations handled the way a learner expects.
Review & mine later
Every line is saved with its breakdown, so you can scroll back, re-read, and study without missing a beat.
Stays out of the way
A translucent bar you drag anywhere, resize, or click through. It sits over fullscreen video and lets you watch.
Nothing to pause
It keeps up with natural speech, so you keep watching at full speed and understand as you go.
The signature feature
See exactly which word means what.
The language you're learning and English rarely line up word-for-word — so we colour the pairs. Every phrase in the translation shares a colour with the word it came from, and the particles that don't translate fade away. Grammar becomes something you can see.
- 1
Matched, not guessed
Word order can flip completely; the colours follow the meaning, not the position.
- 2
Learn the mapping by osmosis
After a few episodes you start predicting which chunk becomes which — that's the language clicking.
- 3
Hover to focus
Point at any word to spotlight its partner on both lines. Try it in the preview above.
だった → past · こと・が・の fade — they're grammar glue, not meaning

Questions
Good to know
What can it listen to?⌄
Anything playing through your computer's audio — streaming sites, anime players, YouTube, games, visual novels, podcasts. Langmerse captures your desktop sound directly, so it isn't limited to any one app or website.
Which languages does it support?⌄
Japanese. The whole pipeline is built around it: dictionary-accurate word segmentation, JMdict meanings, furigana placed against the exact kanji, and JLPT-graded grammar notes — one language, done properly.
Do I need subtitle files?⌄
No. Langmerse transcribes the spoken audio itself in real time. There's nothing to download, sync, or upload — if you can hear it, it can subtitle it.
Is it good for anime and games specifically?⌄
That's exactly what it's built for. The transcription handles casual speech and background music, and the word breakdown is tuned for the contractions and slang you actually hear in anime and games.
What about my privacy?⌄
Short clips of the audio you're watching are sent to the transcription service to turn speech into text, and back to you as subtitles. Nothing you watch is published or shared. Your account is just an email and a password.
What do I need to run it?⌄
A Windows PC and an internet connection. You sign in with your Langmerse account and start watching — no GPU, no heavy setup.
Can I cancel?⌄
Any time, from your account page. Your subscription simply stops renewing — no emails to send, no hoops.
Your next episode is a language lesson.
Stop pausing. Start absorbing. Turn the hours you already spend watching into the immersion that actually teaches you.
